FAQs
Do I need any experience to take a class at NJ-FAST?
No. We train everyone from first-time shooters to 20-year veterans. New students start in the classroom with blue inert guns — no live fire until you’re comfortable. We’ll teach grip, stance, sight alignment, and safety from zero. Fear goes away fast when training is patient and battle-tested
What’s required to get a NJ Permit to Carry (CCW)?
4 main steps in NJ:
Court approval.
Complete a certified training course + qualification — we handle this.
Submit application to your local PD with fingerprints and references.
Pass background check and mental health records check.
Is it legal to use deadly force to defend myself in NJ?
Yes, but NJ has strict standards. You can use force — including deadly force — only if you reasonably believe it’s immediately necessary to prevent death or serious bodily harm to yourself or others. NJ has no “stand your ground” law and there’s a duty to retreat if you can do so safely outside your home. Inside your home, “castle doctrine” applies.
We teach the “why” behind these laws with real case examples, so you know exactly what prosecutors look at.
What should I bring to my first class?
For classroom courses: Just yourself, ID, and a writing materials. We provide all training materials, eye/ear protection included in equipment rentals.
For range days: Bring your firearm if you have one + 100 rounds of factory ammo. Don’t own one yet? Use our equipment rentals. Always bring a positive attitude — we handle the rest. No open-toed shoes or low-cut shirts.
